80 302 Norwegian tectonic building traditions in wood


Det kreves ingen forkunnskaper utover opptakskrav i studieprogrammet.

Course content

The first part of the course consists of lectures and discussions on various building tecniques and construction types. Parallel with this, the students build models of design principles, and / or they write a scientific essay on a relevant topic. Course literature and discussions form an important basis for both article and model studies. The tasks is delivered before specialization week and presented and discussed in plenary. The building week is very intensive and important on this course. In this 5 days we build a timber frame construction in full scale.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students will have an overview of older Norwegian building techniques in wood, and appreciation for the craftsmanship and material understanding inherent in these structures.

After completing the course the student should be able torecognize hardwoods qualities, and to use the qualities where they fit best.

Generell kompetanse
After completing the course the student should be able to place the Norwegian building techniques in wood, in a wider context and be able to write a scientific article with footnotes and bibliography.
